Don’t Tread on Me. Visit Founding Fathers dot com to learn about Americans.

In December 1775, “An American Guesser” anonymously wrote to the Pennsylvania Journal:

Gadsden Flag of our Fathers“I observed on one of the drums belonging to the marines now raising, there was painted a Rattle-Snake, with this modest motto under it, ‘Don’t tread on me.’ As I know it is the custom to have some device on the arms of every country, I supposed this may have been intended for the arms of America.”

This anonymous writer, having “nothing to do with public affairs” and “in order to divert an idle hour,” speculated on why a snake might be chosen as a symbol for America.

First, it occurred to him that “the Rattle-Snake is found in no other quarter of the world besides America.”

The rattlesnake also has sharp eyes, and “may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance.” Furthermore,

“She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. … she never wounds ’till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.”

Finally,

“I confess I was wholly at a loss what to make of the rattles, ’till I went back and counted them and found them just thirteen, exactly the number of the Colonies united in America; and I recollected too that this was the only part of the Snake which increased in numbers. …

“‘Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living.”

Many scholars now agree that this “American Guesser” was Benjamin Franklin.” (Published at founding fathers dot com, click here to see.)

Montel Williams loses his Talk show for supporting our troops on “Fox and Friends”

I wanted to share this post by “From the Left,” posted on Saturday, February 2, 2008:

(See original blog entry here.)

“When TV talk show Montel Williams announced he was closing up shop after seventeen years on the air, most people assumed his decision had to do with his health. Williams has multiple sclerosis. But the end of the popular Montel Williams Show had nothing to with his health.

For just over three minutes on a Saturday morning,Williams made the cardinal error of admonishing the hosts of Fox and Friends for devoting hours of coverage to the death of actor Heath Ledger while ignoring the war in Iraq. Williams, a former Marine and Naval officer, lectured the stunned hosts on the stupidity of their program while U.S. soldiers were dying in Iraq.

It was a spectacle rarely seen on live cable television, as Montel exposed and condemned both tabloid “news” shows and much of American culture for what they have each become: shallow and greedy.

Three minutes into this awkward segment on Fox, one host cut off Montel in order to go to a commercial. Montel did not return after the break. Four days later, after 17 years as a television host, Montel lost his job.” …(when nearly all fox affiliate stations pulled out of their deals to carry his show for next year, following his appearance on Fox and Friends.)

Wall Street Wiz Jim Rogers predicts worst recession since WW II

Wanted to share this portion of an article at CNNMoney (See original article here.) By Brian O’Keefe, senior editor, quoting Jim Rogers on the US economy right now:

“Conceivably we could have just had recession, hard times, sliding dollar, inflation, etc., but I’m afraid it’s going to be much worse,” he says. “Bernanke is printing huge amounts of money. He’s out of control and the Fed is out of control. We are probably going to have one of the worst recessions we’ve had since the Second World War. It’s not a good scene.”

(The central bank’s second interest rate cut in a week raises the risk of inflation and bails out the banks.)

(Interest rate cut=increased money supply=inflation=hard times for poor and working families)

Rogers looks at the Fed’s willingness to add liquidity to an already inflationary environment and sees the history of the 1970s repeating itself. Does that mean stagflation? “It is a real danger and, in fact, a probability.”

Jesus Christ on the evils of Nationalism and War:

“In the former law it was said: “Do good to men of your own nation, and do evil to strangers.” But I tell you, love not only your own countrymen, but people of other nations. Let strangers hate you, let them fall upon you, wrong you; but you speak well of them, and do them good. If you are only attached to your countrymen, why, all men are thus attached to their own countrymen, and hence wars arise. Behave equally towards men of all nations, and you will be sons of the Father. All men are his children and therefore all brothers to you.” -Jesus Christ (Mt. v. 43)

Air Force completes investigation into “loose nukes” it flew over US.

I just read a good article explaining how the Air Force says it’s soldiers ended up flying a B-52 mounted with six nuclear-armed cruise missiles (each more powerful than 10 Hiroshimas according to the article’s author) from North Dakota to Louisiana on August 29, 2007. Click on these sentences to read it for yourself; very interesting, very sad, and very scary.

I feel refreshed. Thank you God. Remeber the Lotus. Protect your purity of heart. God loves you and appreciates your efforts everyday.

“Blessed are the pure in heart,” said Jesus, “for they shall see God.”local lotus!

Yesterday I had a very cathartic venting of irrational anger and frustration. Afterwards, I ‘woke up’ and remembered how completely foolish it is to allow one’s self to be overcome with ingratitude and frustration based on the words or actions of others and one’s own shortsighted judgment. That thought liberated me from the things that had been keeping me tense and depressed; I realized only a fool could be so blessed and still feel overwhelmed with frustration, anger, and resentment.

Feeling as I did in light of all that I’ve been given smacked of ingratitude and when I realized just how ungrateful my attitude had become, I was embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I am better than that, I am more full of integrity, caring, and honesty than I have ever been in my life, and for that I will always be thankful to the people who I have been blessed to have in my life and who have helped me develop the strong character and morals that have allowed me to succeed in my life.

Writing that down felt really good.

It is pure joy to think of how lucky I am and how far I am going as I continue to follow my path as Jesus Christ continues to reveal it.

Thank God. I think I am the luckiest man on Earth.

The meaning of the lotus in relation to Shri-Lakshmi refers to purity and spiritual power. Rooted in the mud but blossoming above the water, completely uncontaminated by the mud, the lotus represents spiritual perfection and authority.

I am going to revisit my favorite part of the Bible, “The Beatitudes,” and then I’m going to bed.

From Wikipedia: “The Beatitudes (from Latin, beatitudo, happiness) is the beginning portion of the Sermon on the Mount of the Gospel of Matthew. Some are also recorded in the Gospel of Luke. In the section, Jesus describes the qualities of the inhabitants of the Kingdom of heaven and indicates how each is or will be blessed. The Beatitudes do not describe many separate individuals, but rather all the specific characteristics each must have to experience heaven. Biblical scholar and author Andrej Kodjak has stated that this opening of the sermon was designed to shock the audience as a deliberate inversion of standard values, but this shock value has been lost today due to the commonness of the text.[1]

Only Privately held copy of Magna Carta to be auctioned off in New York.

UK paper, The Independent, reports today that the only privately held original copy of the Magna Carta, dated to 1297, is to be auctioned in New York this December. Auction experts conservatively estimate the document will sell for at least 15 Million British Pounds. –That’s $30,268,481.9700 US Dollars. (over 30 million dollars.), by the 26 Sep. 2007 exchange rate.

The article points out that 1297 is the year that the final versions of King John’s ground breaking charter were ratified and that all but one of the other 16 surviving original versions of the manuscript are held by public trusts in England -with one original copy also existing in Australia.

“Magna Carta” is latin for “Great Charter,” it is also known as “Magna Carta Libertatum,” “Great Charter of Freedoms,” because, as Wikipedia puts it, it is commonly regarded as having had,”…the most significant early influence on the extensive historical process that led to the rule of constitutional law today. Magna Carta influenced many common law and other documents, such as the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights, and is considered one of the most important legal documents in the history of democracy.”
